How to de-Google your Android phone

Connect your phone to your computer. Once it is plugged into your computer, you are reading to send commands directly to your phone. You definitely need a computer for this step, so first let us configure your desktop or laptop system to use ADB (the Android Debug Bridge).

In most cases, the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) automaticallyconfigures your system to use the IP addresses of your ISP's domain nameservers. To use Google Public DNS, you need to explicitly change the DNSsettings in your operating system or device to use the Google Public DNS IPaddresses. The procedure for changing your DNS settings varies according tooperating system and version (Windows, Mac, Linux, or ChromeOS) or the device(computer, phone, or router). We give general procedures here that might notapply for your OS or device; consult your vendor documentation for authoritativeinformation.

The information we collect includes unique identifiers, browser type and settings, device type and settings, operating system, mobile network information including carrier name and phone number, and application version number. We also collect information about the interaction of your apps, browsers, and devices with our services, including IP address, crash reports, system activity, and the date, time, and referrer URL of your request.

If you use our services to make and receive calls or send and receive messages, we may collect call and message log information like your phone number, calling-party number, receiving-party number, forwarding numbers, sender and recipient email address, time and date of calls and messages, duration of calls, routing information, and types and volumes of calls and messages.

If you add your phone number to your account, it can be used for different purposes across Google services, depending on your settings. For example, your phone number can be used to help you access your account if you forget your password, help people find and connect with you, and make the ads you see more relevant to you. It comes baked in with some privacy-focused applications like Signal, Tor Browser, and more. Even though the support for CalyxOS is limited to Pixel phones, for the most part, it provides plenty of out-of-the-box privacy features for a user to get a head start with a degoogled android phone.

The LineageOS for microG project is a fork of the official LineageOS with microG and Google Apps (GApps) included by default. This project ensures that microG works flawlessly on your phone (which can be a complicated process for a beginner). 2ff7e9595c
